• SOFT PASTE, NO HEATING - Bacher spreads onto a leather strop in seconds with a few light strokes, because it is a genuinely soft paste and not a hard block that has to be warmed up or forced into the leather. Three steps and you are done: lay a thin film on with a spatula or with the applicator disc, then draw the blade along the loaded surface in both directions until the film looks even. An extra high content of abrasives works fast, and our in-house micron sieve process holds particle size to a narrow band from tin to tin, so you get a uniform cut instead of random deep scratches. One tin covers about 50 to 100 applications. A hairdryer is optional, never required.
• CONDITIONS THE LEATHER - Beeswax and real lanolin are blended into the formula, so every pass feeds the leather instead of drying it out. This leather safe formula maintains the naturally supple surface of strops, paddles and razor strops that dry, hard abrasives leave stiff and glazed. It also increases drag on the blade, and that extra drag is what gives you control over the angle and a cleaner, more effective finishing stroke on every pull. A strop that stays flexible loads more evenly the next time, which is why the same piece of leather keeps working for years.
• FINE 5000 GRIT - This white grade works at 2 to 2.5 microns and is the polishing step that clears the fine scratch pattern left by coarser abrasives on kitchen knives, hunting knives and straight razors. In the Bacher scale of 2000, 5000, 8000 and 12000 it sits second from the bottom, so use it after 2000 to clean up the surface, then step up to 8000 or 12000 for a keener edge. It does the same job on wood chisels and plane irons. If you only ever want one grade for general kitchen and pocket knives, this is the safe middle of the range.
• NOT JUST FOR LEATHER - Load it onto felt, wool, sisal, canvas, linen or cotton just as easily, including buffing wheels and polishing discs. Beyond stainless blades it brings a high gloss to high carbon steel, aluminum, copper, bronze, brass, gold and silver, so it doubles as a hand polish for jewelry with a soft cloth or with the leather disc supplied. Apply it sparingly, because 1 to 2 g per 100 cm2 (about 15 sq in) is plenty, then work the blade until the film is thin and even. Buying your first tin: take 5000 or 8000 for kitchen and pocket knives, 2000 if the edge is still rough, 12000 for a shaving finish.
• WHAT IS IN THE TIN - 3.53 oz (100 g) of soft compound in a resealable aluminum screw top tin, plus a round leather applicator disc with the Bacher logo, so you can load a strop straight away. The beeswax binder and the screw top are what keep the paste soft between sharpenings, so it does not set hard in the tin between uses. Made in Poland, EU. One honest note: this product finishes an edge that is already sharp, so it will not repair chips or revive a truly blunt blade, and it does not replace a sharpening stone.
